Buyers beware

posted 2 Feb 2012 06:10 by uksolarcasestudy@hotmail.co.uk

A friend of mine, with a west facing roof who lives in Barnsley (S-Yorks) just had a leaflet pushed through his door.

Offering the opportunity to buy a 4KW array through part deposit and part borrowing the money, saying that he could pay back the borrowed money and interests using the Feed in Tarrif repayments. This was detailed as follows:-

Example case:
4.0Kw system
yield 3,450kw/h
payback p.a £1741
25 year payback £43,536
Pay back periodd 7.5 years
ROI 11%

This is very misleading....

Using real life data (from this site) the ammount of FITS you can expect from a Westfacing 4 KWP is about £1200 per year. On the current rates it is half that £600.

This makes the payback 21 years, which does not factor in the price of possible 2 new invertors in this period.

Best advice I can give is to always do your research before signing up, and if you want free advice contact me on.

Customers who are accepted on a Microgen scheme will continue at the original rate for the forseeable future but customer applying after the deadline date will recive the new rate of just under 21 pence per Kwh (for <4KW) installation.

How about a nice piccy of your Generation Meter

posted 8 Jul 2011 07:29 by uksolarcasestudy@hotmail.co.uk

Following my latest meter reading, my energy suppler requested that I send them a photograph of my Generation meter before they would proceed with payment.
This was inorder to verify what they termed '' higher than expected '' generation.
I wonder if other FiT providers will follow suit and subject us to this inconveniance every time we have a spell of good weather.

The unusual dry spell brought high yields for PV owners, and in most cases more KWh than predicted in June.

Mike generated 526 Kwh from his 4 KW system based in Leeds, this is 62% more than predicted.
